The inclusion of Kosovo and Serbia in NATO is another proposal by John Hopkins professor and Western Balkans expert Edward Joseph.
He stated that this would remove Serbia from Russian influence.
“Putin is the main obstacle to a ceasefire and this approach of resolution 12 44 may be unsuccessful and Putin may say I do not want a ceasefire. I think the US should put pressure on Putin by giving more weapons to Ukraine. We hope that he will change his position and put pressure on Putin, by making Kosovo and Serbia together part of NATO. This will remove Serbia from the influence and the most friendly state with Russia in the Balkans”.
According to him, Serbia’s membership in NATO will also end the tensions with Kosovo.
“By placing Serbia in the Western camp, we will put an end to this so-called balance that Vučić refers to as the neutrality that Serbia has between Russia and China on the one hand and the US and the EU on the other. By making Serbia part of NATO, this ends. You cannot embrace the path to NATO and have this strategic partnership with Russia and China. This will end and will put an end to the tensions with Kosovo because NATO membership, which bombed Serbia in 1999, is something significant. It means that Belgrade accepts the results of the late 1990s and all these narratives end.”
On A2 CNN, he said that it will be the US president who will make the offer, while also listing 3 reasons why the Serbian president cannot refuse. One of them will be the signing by the Kosovo prime minister of the association of municipalities with a Serb majority.
“I have discussed this in my proposal on how Trump will achieve this in the White House. The person making the offer is Trump, the most popular person and international figure in Serbia. Serbia is the first country for Trump in terms of his popularity. Trump is the only figure who can present this offer to Serbia to join NATO. Serbia has good relations with NATO and the Serbian ambassador to the US has openly proposed that Serbia join NATO. The citizens of Serbia, despite the propaganda, know that Serbia should become a member of NATO and the third reason is that Vučić will have no choice but to accept this offer from Trump and the reason he will not refuse it is because Kosovo will also be given the offer at the same time to become part of NATO on the condition that the Prime Minister of Kosovo signs the EU status for the association of municipalities with a Serbian majority. The moment Kosovo signs this, Trump will present the proposal for Kosovo to join NATO and Belgrade will have no other choice “except to accept the offer.”
