Albania declares national day of mourning for the passing of Fatos Nano

The Albanian government has declared Sunday, November 2, 2025, a day of national mourning in honor of former Prime Minister and founder of the Socialist Party, Fatos Nano, who passed away today at the age of 73, after a serious illness.

In honor of his figure, public and state tributes will be held on Sunday at the Palace of Congresses in Tirana, according to the official program:

08:30 – 11:00: Public tributes

11:15 – 11:45: State tributes and honors by personalities

12:05: Farewell ceremony

During the day of mourning, national flags will be lowered to half-mast in all public and state institutions, while RTSH will broadcast funeral music during the state ceremony.

A Special State Commission has been established to organize the ceremony under the supervision of Prime Minister Edi Rama, with representatives from the main state and security institutions.

This commission consists of:

– Minister of Defense;

– Minister of Internal Affairs;

– Deputy Mayor of Tirana Municipality;

– Secretary General of the Council of Ministers;

– Director of State Protocol;

– Director General of State Police;

– Commander of the Guard of the Republic of Albania;

– Director of the Directorate of Government Services;

– Representative from the Prime Minister’s Cabinet;

– Representative from the Prime Minister’s Press Office.
