Ballot mistake prompts new count in Mitrovica

PRISTINA, Nov 12 – Prosecutors in Kosovo have ordered election officials in southern Mitrovica to review the vote count after a printing error was found on several ballot papers.
The ballots carried the wrong polling station codes, raising doubts over the accuracy of last week’s local election. The Slovenian company that printed them said one of its four colour printer heads failed during production and accepted responsibility.
Two police investigators have been assigned to monitor the recount to protect the process. Election officials said the error did not affect results, but opposition members remain unconvinced.
The vote in Mitrovica was part of Kosovo’s second round of local elections, where ruling party candidate Faton Peci claimed victory by just over two thousand votes.
