Bosnia election body opens case over Dodik’s remarks
SARAJEVO, Nov 12 (TemA) – Bosnia’s election commission has opened a case against Republika Srpska leader Milorad Dodik after a campaign speech widely condemned as hate speech.
At a rally in eastern Sarajevo, Dodik said the city must “resist Islamisation” and claimed “no one lies more than Turks”.
Rights groups called the comments dangerous, warning they fuel ethnic tension ahead of this month’s vote.
Prosecutors in eastern Sarajevo say they are still waiting for documents from state authorities before deciding whether to launch a criminal probe.
Hate speech is banned during campaigns under Bosnia’s election law and can lead to fines or disqualification.
The commission is expected to review the case later this week.
